Every day vans populate the roads delivering goods, transporting people, moving furniture, carrying equipment, and so on for both commercial and personal use. Just like car or motorcycle insurance, van insurance is mandatory. Accidents will happen and being covered is the law. The good news is there are plenty of insurers willing to offer you a cheap quote. The problem is, who do you choose and how can you compare quotes quickly?
Comparing cheap van insurance deals allows you to locate and select the best insurance policy for your needs. Below you’ll find a brief example of the types of van insurance cover and what you may expect from these policies.
Similar to car or motorbike insurance, there are 3 main types of van insurance cover:
Third Party Only Cover (TPO)
- Generally, in the event of an accident or damage to a vehicle, person, or property this policy will cover expenses toward the third party.
- Any damage to your van is not covered
- Typically the cheapest of van insurance policies
- Consumers are sometimes advised not to pursue this type of insurance because of its limitations however, it may apply to you
Third Party Fire & Theft Cover (TPFT)
- As with Third Party Only, this policy covers liability to third parties
- You are covered in the event of damage caused by fire, self-ignition, lightning, or explosion
- Your van is covered against theft or damage due to attempted theft
Comprehensive Cover
- This policy includes third party as well as coverage for your own vehicle
- Protection in the event of fire or damage caused by theft or attempted theft (see TPFT)
- Cover includes personal belongings, personal accidents, medical and health expenses (subject to policy)
- The most protection provided as both you, your van, and any third party are covered
Whichever van insurance policy you choose, be sure to understand exactly what is covered. It is recommended, before agreeing to any policy, that you follow the basic guidelines suggested by the FSA which include: understanding terms of coverage, what is not covered, any restrictions, and other features that may be offered.
