Don't Forget Travel Insurance This Christmas
With Christmas just around the corner, many of us have already made plans to visit our loved ones who are that little bit further away. The festive period is a particularly family orientated time and with travel and trips made so much easier these days there is no excuse not to pack up a suitcase and visit long lost family and friends bringing them good tidings from afar. But how many globe trotters consider or even bother with long trip travel insurance?
According to Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Broker's Association (BIBA), long trip travel insurance is an essential must-have for anyone planning to travel for extended periods at Christmas and New Year. By purchasing adequate cover we are not only making a wise investment for our own personal being but we are also protecting any valuable Christmas gifts from loss or damage as we act as Santa's little helpers.
Now is the time to take out long trip travel insurance as premiums are much lower over the festive period than say for example in February when they jump up substantially to meet the Easter and Summertime getaway breaks.
Travel insurance gives us the peace of mind to know that all our Christmas items are covered including personal belongings and any spending money we carry on our person. However, it is important to shop around before actually making a purchase in order to make sure the policy we take out is the right one and meets our specific cover requirements.
Before agreeing to any terms and conditions it is vital that we are made aware of any limitations contained in the insurance policy. Long trip travel insurance offers an important difference in options for travellers over the festive period. The three main risk categories to take into account are: theft, loss or damage to possessions, delays and cancellation and medical assistance. Naturally different insurance policies will offer variations on the levels of compensation for each of these risks. But it is important to bear in mind that the cheapest premium is not always the most convenient and relevant in the long run.
With proper planning and sound travel insurance in hand, travelling afar this Christmas could be much less stressful than preparing a turkey dinner at home.
