A Smoke Free Life Insurance
On July 1st 2007, England introduced a new law making the majority of enclosed public places and workplaces in England smoke-free. This law was a crucial step forward to making England a healthier place to live and above all help those who for years have had to put up with the devastating effects of second-hand smoke.
Besides the obvious financial factor linked to smoking, puffing away has substantially critical effects on your health. You only live once so why not enjoy your lifetime instead of reducing its term. Financially the average 20 a day smoker will spend over £35,000 over a 20 year period, without taking into account any price increase in the cost of a packet of cigarettes. But outweighing this absurd financial loss are the terrible effects this addictive nicotine habit has on your health, which so many smokers continue to be in denial about.
In turn, the cost of smoking can also have an effect on how much premium you pay on your Life Insurance. Naturally there are several factors which can affect your premium i.e. your age; however you can change the smoking aspect by kicking the habit. Each non-smoker can actually score points when applying for Life Insurance simply by having the 'non-smoker' status. Cheaper premiums are readily available for those who either do not smoke or are ex-smokers for a minimum of at least 13 months. Although there will always be those who will continue to smoke no matter what the cost, some people may just consider breaking the habit when they realise that by ticking the smoker's box on a Life Insurance application form, they are actually adding further to their living costs when it could very much be prevented.
If saving money is not enough to help convince you to put out that cigarette forever, maybe the following will. If you continue to smoke you increase the risk that your own death will be smoking-related by up to 50%. Those who die as a result of smoking generally have a slow and painful death suffering badly along the way.
Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and kills more than 40,000 people each year. Those over the age of 50 are more commonly affected although lung cancer can strike without any noticeable symptoms at first. As the cancer grows and develops, patients suffer from chest pains, a persistent cough even coughing up blood, shortness of breath, lack of energy and poor circulation. Over time the cancer can spread to the nervous system causing paralysis of the vocal cords impeding speak and swallowing. Lung cancer can also spread to the bones leading to crippling pain and even amputation. Smoking is also related to heart attacks, strokes and emphysema.
It is important for all smokers to remember that it is not only their own health they are putting at risk. Each time you light up you are polluting the air around you placing others especially children at high risk of asthma and other breathing difficulties. Apart from the unpleasant smell, second-hand smoke can have extreme side effects. Don't make others breathe your smoke!
Medical research shows that just 48 hours after smoking your last cigarette your body will already have started to recover. You should notice your energy level increase as your lung function improves. The heart will not be pumping blood quite so hard in order to keep muscles supplied with oxygen-rich blood. After 10 year of quitting the habit the risk of developing lung cancer is significantly cut in half and not only will you feel so much better you will actually look better too.
Why not stop smoking now? Be strong, get healthy and be proud!
